Deco and Modernism

That rollicking, fun and carefree period of the 1920's and 1930's was not all it seems. Great design it certainly was but there is a dark side too. This documentary from the BBC (avilable on iPlayer in the UK) presents the brightness of Art Deco and the functionality of Modernism alongside the darkness of eugenics with its views that we find hard to understand and stomach today.

Look out this wonderful clip from the documentary about a cinema which has to be seen to be believed! This was an era of music and dance and the film is full of both. A very good watch with a healthy dose of realism to temper our enthusiasm for the Golden Age.
