Cotton and Manchester

The news that cotton spinning is going to return to Greater Manchester is very welcome. Set alongside  the fact that companies are returning to manufacturing textiles in the UK, it shows a revival of interest in this important part of our national economy.

The story on the BBC news website tells how a company which makes material for bullet-proof vests is starting up again in the industry which made the name "Manchester" synonymous with textiles. Luxury cotton will be produced at Tower Mill which was last in use in 1955.  Good news for the "Made in Britain" brand!
