Coptic fragments

While we are on the subject of ancient civilisations, (see previous entry about Akhnaten) a Very Special present has arrived...

Two pieces of textile dating between the 4th and 6th centuries are now to be displayed at the studio in Yell. These two pieces came from an English private collection and were sold at Christies in 2000.

Coptic textiles can be found online and some are very colourful. Our two pieces have faded beautifully and the colours are now browns, tans, greys and black but the detail is so fine and the motifs so clear that the colour does not matter to us. An exciting addition to the collection indeed!
