Cedric Morris, Paris and Fair Isle
The artist, Cedric Morris, has a little-known claim to knitting fame...
Cedric was a teacher and a plantsman amongst his artistic accomplishments. Together with his partner, Arthur Lett-Haines, the couple were well-known amongst the artistic establishment of the early twentieth century and were known for their fashion sense. It is no surprise that Cedric came to design textiles, but he is also credited with introducing Fair Isle pullovers to Paris! One of his fabric pieces is in the Victoria and Albert collection - see it here - and read more about his life, on Wikipedia here.
