Biodegradable footwear

Shahar Asor is a graduate designer who has created a washable knitted shoe that attempts to come up with an answer to the problem of textile waste.

The shoes, made for children, are created as one knitted piece using a bespoke material that acts differently under different conditions. This allows for the manufacture of an upper and a sole in one piece. The shoes are washable: a logo appears when they near the end of their life alerting the wearer to their imminent end. They can then be discarded to biodegrade safely. An interesting concept for this perennial problem of waste.
