Venice Biennale award for El Anatsui

The Venice Biennale has give a Lifetime Achievement Golden Lion award to the artist, El Anatsui, for his contribution to international art and his influence on other West African artists. 

El Anatsui was educated as a sculptor in his home country of Ghana and has exhibited and worked all over the world, showing his wood and clay pieces alongside large scale works which look like kente cloth. You may remember his contribution to the Royal Academy's facade in 2013 which was made from recycled bottletops and printing plates. It is fantastic that this fantastic artist has been recognised by the art world. Congratulations!
