A billowing sculpture

Using a variety of sources, such as postcards and barnacle colonies, as inspiration, a huge aerial sculpture on a new waterfront in Florida measures more than 420 feet  in diameter and is made of 180 miles of twine tied together with 1,662,528 knots.

Artist Janet Echelman is well-known for her large sculptures that make use of nets to define spaces and volumes. If you want to see more head over to the artist's website to see this and other inspirational works.
