Bacteria-dyed cloth
In the latest email from the UK Crafts Council is a fascinating story about bacteria being used to dye cloth.
The idea of Natsai Audrey Chieza, a design researcher who is interested in the impact of fashion on the environment, cloth is placed in a dish with bacteria which produce different colours depending on the pH of the environment. The results are not only beautiful but also use far less water than traditional dyeing methods.
Have a look at this page to see some of the fabrics. What a great result and brilliant idea!
