The value of art

The news of the destruction of ancient art and sites in Iraq this week truly shocked us.

The city of Nimrud is a 13th Century listed site which has apparently been destroyed by militants. A video released by IS showing the demolition of art in the city of Mosul has been condemned by academics, the art world and historians, and it is an horrific spectacle. Statues being toppled from their pedestals and destroyed, hammers defacing sculptures... 

The loss of these pieces and places makes us all poorer.
