Article of the week - Number Nine

Rose  by Lara Carter was added to the collection a few years ago, bought on a whim from an auction. When the piece arrived it was immediately clear that it was significant.

Pieced from cotton, organzas and silk, the patchwork is free-machine stitched and quilted. Correspondence subsequently with Lara, having tracked the artist down, revealed that it was made in the 1990s and was part of a collection for BP, the oil company. Quite how it came to be sold at auction is a mystery. Lara's work is also in the Constance Howard Gallery at Goldsmith's College in London.

The piece is in need of some restoration and is currently in storage at the studio.
