Article of the week - Number Seven

Lichens in the studio.

Each week an item from the studio collection is featured on the blog. This week it is the work of Amanda Cobbett.

Amanda works from her studio in the English countryside, surrounded by the inspiration for her stitched pieces. A little while back, this box of four lichens was added to the collection and is on display in the studio.

Amanda uses free machine embroidery to recreate the hidden natural world - lichens, mosses, fungi - that many of us miss when we go out. The attention to detail has garnered accolades and awards including from Chelsea Flower Show in 2019 where the exhibit was given 5 stars!

Have a look at the artist's website to see more of Amanda's work, and if you are in the studio (once it reopens) do ask where the box with its exquisite contents is displayed.
