Article of the Week number twenty nine - a Clothkits kit
Clothkits was started in 1969 in Lewes, Sussex, and specialised in pre-printed clothing kits that could be made up at home.
This piece of Clothkits history is from the 1970s and is a pre-printed set of Useful Things, including a hot water bottle in the shape of a bear, an over glove in the shape of an owl and a tea cosy in the shape of a cat!
The kits came with fabric printed with the pattern, thread and buttons, everything that was needed to make the final piece, normally a garment. The company lasted until the early 1990s but was relaunched in 2008. Our kit came from a second-hand shop in Shetland. Maybe there are more out there?
