Article of the Week number twenty seven - a Manatunga throw

Manatunga blankets and throws were woven in Dunedin, New Zealand by the Roslyn Mill, owned by Mosgiel Woolens Ltd.

Based on traditional New Zealand Maori patterns, tukutuku, the throws and blankets used a skilful blend of colouring and bold geometrics to create a distinctive New Zealand look.

This piece has just been added to the collection. We do not know very much about New Zealand's weaving history where these items are concerned so if anyone has more information, please get in touch and let us know.
