Thread Bearing Witness - Alice Kettle
Alice Kettle and "Sea" at the Winchester Discovery CentreGathering the stories of displaced people has resulted in monumental works by Alice Kettle, textile artist.
Thread Bearing Witness started in 2017 when Alice decided to explore the stories of migrants in order to show solidarity and to raise money for displaced people. Migration is one of the defining issues of the 21st Century and addressing it through textiles allowed the artist to look at the stories of women and children, using these as contributions to new stitched artworks. in collaboration with Tamsin Koumis and many others, these are now on display (until 31st October) in the historic Abbey Barn at Somerset Rural Life Museum.
