Alan Tulloch And Friends - YouTube

Last night, the Fiddle and Accordion Festival was in full swing and we went to the concert in Cullivoe. Kathy and Stacey have arrived for their Wool and Weave talk, and se we drove over to the hall to what must be one of the most enjoyable local concerts I have been to in ages.

My best moment, after hearing some great musicians, was Alan Tulloch and Friends. Originally hailing from Yell, Alan and his group are all Whalsay folk now, I think. What a very lovely thing to hear! Alan and Friends played some old tunes in their relaxed, carefree, bantering style, with an ease and a flair that showed everything that is fantastic about local Shetland music with the minimum of fuss and bother. It was a real treat and a lovely experience from a fantastic old-style musician.

The dance afterwards was great fun too. All the favourites plus a couple of new dances that I did not know. Couples whirling on the dancefloor and good music from the stage. A great way to introduce new folk to Shetland. Thanks Fiddle and Accordion Festival!
