Ada Tobbit

Ada Tobbit lived in Henfield, a village in West Sussex, and her trousseau has intrigued Stephanie Richards, Curator of Costume at Henfield Museum.

Born in 1873, Miss Ada, like her two brothers, never married and her collection of underwear and nightshirts, now in the Museum, was never worn. The pieces reveal that Ada was an accomplished needlewoman though, and that set Stephanie off on a journey to find out more. You can read that story about Ada and her family on the museumcrush.org website. A fascinating glimpse into the life of a woman who lived in two centuries.
