A note on the use of Te Reo Maaori in the blog

The Maaori language/ Te Reo Maaori is increasingly in use in Aotearoa New Zealand.

Te Reo, the shortcut for referring to the language, is a source of pride in the country and, as in all languages, provides stability, cultural reference, community knowledge and identity for many. Unfortunately in this blog it is impossible to use the stress mark - the macron - that indicate how a word is pronounced so, for want of a better solution, I will use double letters to indicate that stress wherever it is appropriate.

If you would like to learn more about Maaori words this is a good resource as a dictionary and you can learn how to pronounce the different sounds here.
