A night of music
This week, I was lucky enough to be able to attend a music-making session with Hugh Nankivell, courtesy of Shetland Arts/ National Theatre of Scotland Ignition project. It was a snowy night so I was the only person that could actually get to the hall, and we had a really great evening.
Hugh has been working to create a musical piece that captures Shetland so he is working his way down the islands from Skaw to Sumburgh, gathering ideas, tunes and lyrics from people along the way. I was representing Yell and we wrote a song that told about my favourite view in the islands. Hugh has also been in schools and other communities in the islands, and he played me some of his music from these experiences. It was a really interesting and happy night!
It is not often that a chance like that comes along. I must say that we are very lucky to live in Shetland where there are these opportunities. Thank you Shetland Arts and National Theatre. You have made me very happy.
