Shetland Needleworkers

The Shetland Needleworkers will be holding their AGM on September 9th in Islesburgh Community Centre. Here is the list of activities for the next year from the group.

A Block Keeper Roll & Needlecase – Saturday September 27th 2014, 10.00 – 4.00

Helen Burgess will lead this class. You can make either or both in the day.

One is a very useful sectioned needlecase, and the other is a roll to keep patchwork blocks in.

Graphic Design & Machine Embroidery - Sat 25th October 2014, 10.00- 4.00

You need a machine that can drop the feed dogs and be used for free machine embroidery.                Shona Skinner will demonstrate drawing from natural forms to create your own designs and produce a simple piece of work in free machine embroidery.

There will be samples of ways round for those who are unsure.

This is a follow on class from the previous workshop.

Helen Burgess will teach a class on machine quilting, demonstrating different options to suit different designs, gradually working towards more advanced ideas. Not suited to absolute beginners, a little experience is needed. Everyone needs to bring a small quilt or patchwork blocks to work on.

An opportunity to network and be inspired by each other`s crafts. Members display some recent work during the day. Needleworkers also provide a workshop activity for the SWD and they do one for us. Always LOTS of home bakes of course!

Helen Robertson will teach the art of needlefelting, that is, creating a felt without water. You will make a brooch, a 3D item and a needlefelt picture, either freehand or using a template.

This is a quilt which requires careful planning, particularly in choosing and buying fabric.

It is VERY important to get advice first.

This is an opportunity to get to know what your machine can do, at the same time producing decorative items. Limited knowledge would be useful, but the classes are suitable for most skills and the items in the workshop are designed to teach a range of techniques using your machine.

Free to all members. Details will be circulated nearer the event.

  • We welcome new members. Membership cost is £15 per year.
  • Members are welcome to attend any meeting with their own project & pay basic rate,                      ie £6 for the day or £3 for a half day.
