Hi-Arts Newsletter - August 2010

WELCOME TO THE CRAFTS E-NEWSLETTER - AUGUST 2010
This month we focus on the work of new Graduates, feed back on
Scotland's Housing Expo and keep you up to date with lots of other

MAKERS OF THE MONTH - HIGHLAND GRADUATES

DANIEL KAVANAGH - SPOTLIGHT EXHIBITION
As part of the series of the HI-Arts Making Progress Spotlight
Exhibitions which have been running from May - September 2010, Daniel
Kavanagh from Glenferness  will be exhibiting his work in the small
gallery at Inverness Museum and Art Gallery from 14 August - 11

CHALLENGING CREATIONS BY HIGHLAND GRADUATES
Tina Rose recently visited New Designers 2010 in London and met up
with some of the Highland Graduates who were exhibiting this year.

SCOTLAND'S HOUSING EXPO

Scotland's Housing Expo takes place near Inverness from the 1st -31st
August 2010 and we worked with the organisers to ensure that Highland
makers have a strong presence.
Our makers work is on display at Plot 24 (alongside visual art from
Rhue Arts) and in a showcase in the studio for Plot 7. The Scottish
Furniture Makers Association have a good selection on display in No 22
and Edinburgh based Craft House Concept have work in the Passivehaus.
If you have the chance, try to get along to see what all the talk is
about!
We have produced a booklet on commissioning craft for the home and
this has been distributed in all the houses at the event. We will also
have it available our events and if you would like to receive a copy
just let us know by emailing us on craft@hi-arts.co.uk

STARTING OUT EVENT
We still have some spaces available at our Starting Out event which is
taking place in Inverness on 23rd September 2010. Perfect if you are
just starting out in your career or have a few years under you belt
and want to check that you are on the right track.

Mentoring to Market is HI-Arts mentoring programme for makers who
would like to participate in shows such as Collect, Origins, Lustre,
Country Living and the Great Northern Contemporary Craft Fair - find

HI-Arts recently put out a second call on the Argyll Artists & Makers
Directory (visit

to view the directory) – if you've been contacted and haven't checked
your entry, the directory is on the menu on the left of the Argyll
Arts home page. During August we plan to work on the look and
promotion of the Directory, once we have the bulk of the content
