Shetland ForWirds - dialect website

Shetland has a unique dialect and accent; each island and area has its own characteristics and islanders can tell where someone is from purely by through speech. To visitors, the dialect may be completely incomprehensible but I love the dialect and the wonderful words and phrases that exist. Shetland ForWirds was a group established to promote and preserve the dialect, and it is a great resource for everyone interested in "spikkin' Shetlan". For us singers, it provides a way for us to explore and understand the place in which we live and sing about. For more information, take a look at www.shetlanddialect.org.uk. As we say in the isles, "Du's braaly weelcom!"
