BBC iPlayer - Gershwins Summertime: The Song That Conquered the World

Once in a while, something completely captivating comes along. Summertime, the song penned by George Gershwin, in a documentary from the BBC took me on a journey through opera, black civil rights in the States, African sensibilities and the Flower Power generation. A beautifully crafted piece of film-making that had me in tears when Mahalia Jackson sang her version which twinned "Sometimes I feel like a motherless child" with this pean to the memories in all of us. http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b017nf05/Gershwins_Summertime_The_Song_That_Conquered_the_World/
